Saul Marquez:
Hey, what’s up, everybody? Welcome to the Outcomes Rocket. And today I have an amazing guest, JLD, John Lee Dumas. He is the Founder and Host of the award-winning podcast Entrepreneurs on Fire. With over a million monthly listeners and seven figures of annual revenue, JLD is spreading entrepreneurial fire on a global scale. His first traditionally published book, The Common Path to Uncommon Success, is available for preorder now at UncommonSuccessBook.com. And today we’re going to do a brief intro on it. And by the way, folks, if you don’t know, John actually is the guy that got me started on podcasting. So kudos to you, my man. Everybody thinks I’m crazy for doing five a week. Listen to his show. He does seven, and some bonus episodes, too. So I lost track of what you do. But John, great to have you on the podcast.

John Lee Dumas:
It is amazing to be here, Saul. I can so fondly remember sitting down with you in person, working on your podcast, making things happen, and to know that you’re still just creating great value with Outcomes Rocket, it is just fantastic to see. Fantastic to hear. And thank you for what you do.

Saul Marquez:
Hey, man. My pleasure. So the Common Path to Uncommon Success. I love the title, so talk to me about that.

John Lee Dumas:
Listen, I’ve interviewed over three thousand people over the past decade. I’ve been a mentee learning from all of those mentors this entire time. It has been an unbelievable journey of learning, of applying their knowledge to my business, of sharing it with Fire Nation. And it’s allowed me to turn entrepreneurs on fire and see now podcast has over one hundred million listeners. Just getting one point four million listeners every single month.

Saul Marquez:
Amazing.

John Lee Dumas:
And we just started in the 90th month in a row of having a net profit of at least one hundred thousand dollars net profit, 90 months in a row. So it’s also a real business revenue-generating machine. So I’ve learned a lot and my business I’ve shared all with fire nations well over the years, but those are thousands and thousands and thousands of hours of conversations. And I said, you know what? I’m still getting hundreds of emails on a monthly basis from people that are just asking basically the same ten questions. And I want to answer those questions individually, but I can’t. There’s just no time in the world to do that. So it’s time for me to sit down and write the book.

John Lee Dumas:
So I boil down all of the conversations I have, all of the genius that I learned over the years from all of these guests. And so I was left over with these 17 core foundational elements and principles that every single successful entrepreneur has in common. And I looked at those and I said, you know what? This is a roadmap. I put it in chronological order, step one to step 17. And I said, these are my 17 chapters and this roadmap will lead you to financial freedom and fulfillment, period. So if you want financial freedom, if you watch the fulfillment it’s in your life, The Common Path and Common Success will get you there step by step by step. So I spent four hundred and eighty writing hours writing every single one of these seventy-one thousand words you see in this book. And I’m so excited to now be able to hand this book, gift this book to everybody that wants their version of uncommon success, that wants their version of financial freedom and fulfillment. And that is what I want to give to you.

Saul Marquez:
I love it. I mean, what a phenomenal thing to do. And three thousand interviews, plus the things that you learn, John, I’m sure are just gold. I mean, I’m close to a thousand on mine. We’ll get to a thousand interviews on our podcast. And holy smokes, like the things that I’ve learned in the short time are incredible. So really, let’s talk about a couple of things. Right. This thing is on preorder right now. But one of the things in there is about how people have been lied to by the experts in the online business world. Talk to us about that.

John Lee Dumas:
Listen, there are some great experts out there and they’re doing amazing things. There are some not-so-great experts out there and those not-so-great experts Saul, they want you to think that’s the path to uncommon success is secret or hidden or complicated. It’s not. Listen, the path to uncommon success. It’s a common path.

John Lee Dumas:
I’ve identified it. I’ve learned about this path from the three thousand entrepreneurs who have come before me, who have all gone down that path as well. It is a very common path to uncommon success. Now they want you to think it’s complicated. They want you to think it is hidden, they want you to think it is a secret because they hold the key for nineteen hundred and ninety-seven point ninety-seven cents, and guess what, it does not have to be that way, you don’t need that key because the key is here in this book. It’s right here in the 17 step formats, in a 17 step roadmap to financial freedom and fulfillment. That is a promise of this book. That’s the reason why I sat down and wrote for four hundred and eighty hours so that I can now hand this to people who are looking to start a step one and go through these 17 steps and get the financial freedom and fulfillment.

Saul Marquez:
That’s awesome. And so if you peel back the onion, there’s the surface-level reason of why you want to do something. But then there’s what you really want, a couple of levels down. What is it that you believe we really want to achieve as entrepreneurs?

John Lee Dumas:
You’re so right. When you ask somebody like, why do you do what you do? They’ll give you a reason and then you’ll ask them again. But like, what do you really do what you do? And then they’ll think about it for a second and they’ll give option B and then you kind of keep peeling that onion back and you’re always going to get down to the same basic core. So everybody has different level A, B, C and D, but everybody finishes at the same base core. What we want is freedom. We want freedom to do what we want, where we want to do it, with whom we want to do it with. If we can do those three things, we’re successful, we’re happy, we’re thriving. Waking up every day can you even imagine that doing what you want to do, where you want to do it, with whom you want to do it with? It’s the dream. You can. I can. I’ve been doing it for years now and it’s amazing. And we want to give that gift, our experience. We want other people to have that, because guess what? The world is not a better place when you’re miserable, going to some job that you hate. The world is a better place when you’ve identified your big idea, when you’re living in your zone of fire and you’re doing it every single day. So that’s why Saul and I work so hard putting out the content that we put out there to get you to that place, to get you to where you can be doing what you want every single day, where you want to do it every single day, with whom you want to do it with every single day. That’s the dream.

Saul Marquez:
I love that. You know, the Outcomes Rocket community, they’re doers, they’re leaders. And so it’s about what to do to get there. So talk to us about that seventeen-step roadmap and maybe give us a sneak peek to the first three or four or whatever order you want because we want to make it simple and help them get started.

John Lee Dumas:
We’ve briefly touched upon step one so we can start there. You have to identify your big idea. I want to be honest. Most human beings, not most people in this community, because these guys are action takers. Like you said, they’re doers. But most human beings are going to die without ever even having identified their big idea. And brother, that is sad. They will die, not even having identified their big idea. And that is a crime because when you’ve identified your big idea, that’s your zone of fire. Now you know what to do, wake up every single day and thrive in that. But the problem is, when you have your big idea, do guess what? It’s a great idea. A lot of other people are doing it. That’s exciting. But there’s a lot of competition up there because it’s a good idea and other people are doing good ideas. So what you need to do is move right on to step two now instead of just launching into step one, which a lot of people make the mistake to do now go to step to discover your niche. There’s a niche within that big idea that is underserved. There’s an opportunity that is not currently being filled. There’s a void in that big idea that you need to identify within your niche, discover that, reveal it, uncover it. That’s where you need to start. I mean, my big idea I saw was a podcast back in 2012. That would have failed. So I niched down to a business podcast and it’s down again to an interview business podcast of entrepreneurs. I looked around, there were seven other interview business podcast. Did I want to become the eighth-best interview business podcast? Of course not.

John Lee Dumas:
I would have been the eighth-best because I would have been the worst because I didn’t know what I was doing and I was going to be good for a significant amount of time. So I said, well, how can I be the best day one? Well, what about another niche and becoming the best daily podcast interviewing entrepreneurs? Yes, I was also the worst daily podcast interviewing entrepreneurs. I was the only daily podcast interviewing entrepreneurs. I won. I saw the void. Everybody was weekly and I filled it with this is what needs to happen. There needs to be a daily podcast. Not for everybody. Not everybody is going to listen to a daily podcast. But my audience is my ideal listeners are. My avatars are. And that’s how I got my initial traction, my initial momentum. I made a name for myself and built the business that we now see here today because of that. So that’s how I won on that big level. So that’s step two. Step three briefly is, hey, once you’ve identified the niche that you want to fill, now it’s time to create that perfect customer, client, listener, that avatar. You need to sit down. And I teach you, of course, this book is not just telling you what to do. It’s showing you how to do it with exercises, with strategies, with tactics. That’s how you’re going to win by doing the exercises within this book, it is creating your Avatar step three. That is critical. You have to know who your North Star is, who you’re serving. That’s going to give you the answer to every one of your questions moving forward in your.

Saul Marquez:
Super, super powerful John and I just love the passion you have for this and the clarity and the direction is so valuable. The cool thing is that what you did for Fire is what we did for Outcomes Rocket actually. At the very beginning when we started our podcast, there were seven health care podcasts. Now I can’t even count them, but we did our mini landgrab and it’s been fruitful for us because of it. And it’s still not too late because podcasting is still blowing up and the opportunity in that niche is still big. But beyond that, on the business level, do these things and you’re going to be successful. There are 14 more steps and you could find them out. So John is doing a prelaunch. So talk to us about this pre-launch where folks can pick up your book John.

Saul Marquez:
Listen. Don’t wait. You’re a doer. Saul told me that. I believe it. Take action right now.
